YOU & FMHA
By way of introduction, I am Dr. Gary Wray. In August 2003, working with Lee Jennings, then Historian for the Delaware State Parks System, Bob Frederick, a current member of the Board of Directors and David Main, a Washington based attorney who contributed the organizational legal work, the four of us formed the Fort Miles Historical Association (FMHA), while standing under Tower 3 located at Dewey Beach.
At that time, the buildings and batteries that comprised a portion of Fort Miles within Cape Henlopen State Park (CHSP) had fallen into a state of disrepair and were largely abandoned.
Over the past 15 years, FMHA, due to the diligent efforts of its founders, Board Members past and present and a large group of incredibly dedicated volunteers has restored many of these structures and created a Museum within Battery 519 at CHSP. We now believe this Museum can become a national standard for World War II museum’s located at authentic World War II sites. We seek to create a Best in Class World War II Museum to honor Delaware’s fallen servicemen and women who served in World War II and to help educate the public regarding the role of Fort Miles in World War II and Delaware history.
We need your support to accomplish the rest of our mission. There are three primary ways individuals and business partners can support FMHA and, via such support, you are also supporting the Delaware State Parks System and CHSP.
