FORT MILES 5K – SUNDAY, MAY 7
The inaugural Fort Miles 5K – “A RUN THROUGH HISTORY” – is set for Sunday, May 7. Runners – and walkers – can pick up packets beginning at 8 a.m. with the run starting at 9 a.m. The course is entirely in Cape Henlopen State Park. Post-race food and beverages will be served, sponsored by Big Oyster Brewery. Details and registration: Races2Run.com.
BATTERY 519 TOURS AND MUSEUM HOURS
This month, indoor tours of Battery 519 are offered:
11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays
NEW: Sunday tours, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., beginning May 14 (More tours may be offered if demand warrants.)
Note: Battery 519 opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 4 p.m. each Friday and Saturday. For ages 7 and older with a paying adult ($5 per person). Limited access to Fort Miles Museum exhibits is available for those not wanting to join a guided tour.

On Sundays, Fort Miles Museum opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 2:30 p.m. Reservations are not required (nor accepted) for Sunday tours conducted by docents from Fort Miles Historical Association. The tour costs $5 per person (free for veterans and active-duty service personnel).

FORT MILES LANTERN TOUR
8 p.m., Saturday, May 6 and Saturday, May 20
Tour Battery 519 by lantern light as your state parks guide reveals U-Boats on the prowl, sailors in distress and details about a soldier’s life at Fort Miles during World War II. Tours meet at the Fort Miles Orientation Building. For ages 10 and up with a paying adult. $6 per person.
SEASIDE HISTORY HIKE
11 a.m., Wednesday, May 10
A park historian leads a walk across a sandy trail toward Delaware Bay. See World War II relics, uncover the Delaware Breakwater Quarantine Station and hear tales of pirates. Tours meet at Seaside Nature Center. Wear walking shoes and dress for the weather. For ages 7 and older with an adult. Limit 15. $5 per person.
ARTILLERY PARK WALK
11 a.m., Wednesday, May 17
Join Delaware State Parks’ historic interpreters for a walk through the Fort Miles Artillery Park. Along the way, discover the different types of artillery pieces that helped protect the Delaware Bay during WWII. Tours meet at the Orientation Building adjacent to the large Museum parking area. For ages 7 and up accompanied by an adult. The tour is free.
CAPE INVASION
11 a.m., Wednesday, May 24
Cape Henlopen has been invaded — by plants. The construction of Fort Miles changed the ecology in Cape Henlopen — find out how. Bring your bike. Tours meet at the Orientation Building for ages 10 and older accompanied by an adult. $5 per person.
TRUCKIN’ THROUGH HISTORY
5 p.m., Saturday, May 27
Take a ride on a historic World War II troop-carrying truck through Cape Henlopen State Park to see lesser-known remnants of Fort Miles. Tours meet at the Orientation Building. For ages 7 and older accompanied by an adult. $10 per person.
