As previously announced, FMHA will salute the end of World War II with Japan at a ceremony to be held at 11 AM on Sunday, September 2nd. This event will take place at the Fort Miles Museum Artillery Park in front of the Museum’s 16-inch barrel, which was once mounted on the USS Missouri. The photo below pictures sailors, officers and dignitaries standing underneath this barrel as they waited for the surrender ceremony to commence.

The most accurate statistics available tell us that 800 Delawareans died for their country during World War II. Starting with this ceremony and continuing at seven future ceremonies, 100 names of these brave service men and women will be read and saluted. A list of the names to be read this September follows.
